Legion Playoffs Saturday Update

By Sports WKTV

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - The District V Legion Baseball Tournament has been constantly changing due to the weather this weekend, but on Saturday, Moran-Meeker-O'Rourke stayed alive with a 13-6 win over Smith.  Unfortunately they had to bow out of the tournament, due to a lack of players.

The game with Smith was originally scheduled to begin at nine in the morning, but more rain caused it to be delayed until one.  MMO had the early 6-3 lead, but Smith tied it in the fifth, with three runs.

D.J. Forbragd put MMO back on top with a solo home run in the sixth, and MMO followed that up with RBI singles by Dylan VanDresar and Riley Dixon.  They added four more insurance runs in the seventh.

Because of the rain, every remaining game in the tournament, beginning Saturday, was shorten to seven innings.

The other games today were also delayed, with Utica knocking out New Hartford, 12-7 in the Survivors bracket.  Whitestown then beat Ilion 9-2 in the Winners bracket, setting up a rematch between Utica and Ilion.

That game began on Saturday night, but was suspended in the second, with Utica leading 6-0.  It will continue Sunday at 11 a.m.

The winner will face Whitestown for the District title, needing two wins.  The first game is set for 2 p.m., with the second, if necessary, set for 5 p.m.
