UPDATE:Mohawk dominates; Nine locals going to Dome

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - From start to finish, the Mohawk boys basketball team showed how dangerous they can be in a 68-46 win over Fabius-Pompey Tuesday night at HCCC in the Section III Class C-2 Final. The Mohicans now advance to meet C-1 champ Beaver River in the overall Class C final Sunday morning at 11 from the Carrier Dome.
In Tuesday's win, Carson Murphy once again paced the team, scoring 24 points, but also grabbing 12 rebounds and dishing out 7 assists. Mike Santillo also added 23 points and 5 assists, while Kainan McCarthy chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds.
Mohawk dominated from the early going, taking a 17-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and extending that to 36-18 at halftime.
With the Mohicans headed to the Dome, that makes nine teams from the Mohawk Valley that will be headed to section finals.
On Wednesday, defending Class D girls champion, Oriskany, faces rival NY Mills, at 6 p.m. The A Final has been moved. Whitesboro will face Jamesville-Dewitt at 7 on Saturday at the Dome.
Thursday begins with the Class B Final, with Notre Dame taking on South Jefferson at 5 p.m., then continues with Cooperstown meeting Weedsport in the C Final at 6:45.
After the C Final Sunday, NY Mills takes on Cincinnatus in the D Final at 12:45 p.m. Later in the day, Proctor faces Henninger for the third straight year in the AA Final, at 4:30, followed by New Hartford vs Bishop Ludden in the A Final at 6:30.
