MOHAWK, N.Y. (WKTV) - Mohawk high school was locked up as tight as the Pentagon Saturday night, as spectators gathered outside to watch through the windows as the Mohican boys basketball team beat rival Little Falls 59-46 in the Section III Class C quarterfinals. Mohawk rebounded from an awful first half, in which they trailed the Mounties 24-13, though they led it 10-7 after one.
But Little Falls went on a 12-0 run in the second quarter and held Carson Murphy to just three points in the first half.
The third quarter was Mohawk's turn to go on a run, as they outscored their rivals 22-4, then 24-18 in the fourth. Murphy scored 23 points in the second half, 26 for the game, while adding 12 rebounds and a pair of blocks. Mike Santillo had 18 points and seven rebounds, while Kainan McCarthy chipped in eight points, 13 rebounds and three blocks.
Jordan Day was the high scorer for Little Falls, with ten, while Mohawk held Jake Yallowitz in check, holding him to just four points.
The #2 seeded Mohicans, whose only loss this season was in Little Falls last month, now advance to the section semis to meet #3 Beaver River.
