Orange meet media at start of camp

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Syracuse football team met the media Saturday as they prepared to open training camp Sunday.  As they prepare to open their final season in the Big East, the Orange are excited to get things going, including next week's getaway to Fort Drum, where SU will go through a 'boot camp' of sorts.

"We should build communication skills out there, we don't have any distractions," said WR Marcus Sales.  "I think it's a time for us to go out there and get better as a team.  It's a different challenge for us, but I think it'll be good for us."

"I've been in it for a couple months when I went to prep school, so it's really not going to be a big deal for me, probably have a couple bad memories, flashbacks," added LB Marquis Spruill.  "Other than that, I'll be okay.  It's going to be interesting to see how the team adapts and reacts to the new environment that we have."

The Syracuse players are excited about getting back to the business of football, even if they have a lot of work ahead of them.

"The last couple days when I was home on break, I was feeling a little anxious about the year, kind of seeing how it will all go," said QB Ryan Nassib, who is entering his final season at SU.  "But once I started driving up here, that's when the excitement started hitting me."

"We're going to be working every day, no matter, whether it's meeting, practice, two-a-days, whatever happens," added C Macky MacPherson.  "But it's going to be fun, just to be with these guys, because we've really grown close over this off-season."

The Orange are confident that this year will be much better than 2011, when they lost their final five games.

"We've got a lot of ability, a lot of talent, even more with the new freshmen coming in," said SS Shamarko Thomas.  "We're capable of a lot, we've just got to bring it together.  That's what preseason's for, bringing out all our ability and all our hard work and bonding together."

Syracuse opens their season at the Carrier Dome, September 1st against Northwestern.
