Oriskany tops Brookfield in section final

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Oriskany baseball team beat Brookfield 4-1 Wednesday in the Section III Class D Final at NBT Bank Stadium, home of the Syracuse Chiefs, the AAA affiliate of the Washington Nationals.

The Redskins broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning, scoring two runs, then getting one more in the sixth.  Nick Springer nearly went the distance, striking out nine Beavers in six and two-thirds innings.  Tyler Tarkowski picked up the save, getting a bases loaded strikeout to end the game.

It's the second section title in three years for Oriskany, who beat Brookfield 8-2 in the 2012 final.  The Redskins will face the Section IV champ next week at Broome Community College.
