Proctor solves C-NS, back in final

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Proctor boys basketball team finally solved their C-NS problem, snapping a six game skid to the Northstars Thursday night, with a 71-68 win in the Section III Class AA semifinals at LeMoyne College.  The Raiders now advance to their third straight AA section final, where they'll meet the team that beat them last year, Henninger, Sunday, March 4th at the Carrier Dome.

Proctor trailed in the first quarter, but caught fire near the end, taking a 17-13 lead after the first eight minutes.  C-NS responded with a huge second quarter, taking a 35-25 lead at halftime.

The Raiders cut into that lead in the third, trailing 49-44 heading into the final quarter.  The Raiders led 56-53 with 3:40 to go, but couldn't close the deal as C-NS tied it at 59 and forcing overtime.

The Northstars won the only regular season meeting between the two teams, 66-63 in overtime January 17 at C-NS.  In that game, Proctor trailed by 19, but came back to force the extra period, though they fell just short.

In the extra period Thursday, the two teams traded leads until Lavoy Leggett scored his last two points of a game and career high 24 to put the Raiders on top to stay.

Former NEWSChannel 2 Athlete of the Week Chris Simmons added 18 for top seeded Proctor.  Vaughndell Bradley and Andrew Johnson each led C-NS with 16 points apiece.
