Shoen, '58 Little Leaguers induced to Hall

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Whitesboro high school head football coach Tom Schoen and the 1958 South Utica Little League All-Star team were inducted into the Greater Utica Sports Hall of Fame Sunday.  The ceremony was held at the Radisson Utica once again, hosted by NEWSChannel 2's own coach Ralph Leo.

Shoen has been at the helm of the Warriors for 38 years and is the winningest coach in Section III football history.  Earlier this year he was also inducted into the Ithaca College Sports Hall of Fame, where he played in college.  As head coach of Whitesboro, Schoen's record is 230-113-3, with thirteen league titles, eight Section III championships and three regional victories.  His teams have made the playoffs 21 straight years.

The 1958 South Utica Little League All-stars won the state title and came a game short of the Little League World Series.  They were defeated in the regionals by Darien, Conn., on a team that featured future Major Leaguer Joe LaHoud.
