Tornadoes net victory over Mustangs

By MIKE LEVIN

POLAND, N.Y. (WKTV) - Mount Markham may have the state's winningest soccer coach, but on Monday, Poland got the better of Charlie Engle's team, with a 2-0 victory.

The Tornadoes, who lost their season opener Saturday, a 1-0 heartbreaker to Westmoreland, got their first win of the season to even their record at 1-1.

Poland scored in the game's third minute, on a direct kick by Pat Garrett that deflected off the hands of Mustang keeper Mike Gras.

About 25 minutes later, Poland got on the board again, when Steven Bergstrom sent a shot from the left side of the net that Cody Broadbent knocked in from the right side.

It was a tough game for Gras, who was peppered with shots all game.  He ended up with ten saves for the game.

Engle is three victories away from reaching the 600 win plateau.
