UC Football opens training camp

By MIKE LEVIN

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Utica College football team opened training camp this weekend, holding their first practice Sunday.  The team will be practicing all this week to get ready for an intraquad game next Sunday night at 8, the Blue-White game at Gaetano Stadium.

"The season started today, but this is our first practice, but it really started last January, this program, this year," says head coach Blaise Faggiano.  "We got great leadership, looking forward to getting after our conference opponents."

While getting their football plans and the playbook set is important, the guys say building team chemistry is most important.

"Just hanging out with the new guys, we have a pretty tight group now and with the smaller freshman class coming in, it should be a good time together," says senior left tackle Andy Hems.  "Should be easy to get to know each other and have fun."

"We have this thing called little brothers and big brothers," added senior cornerback Jon White.  "You pick a guy and bring him in and you show him what it's like, you teach him everything you know.  We have a new turf, new players, we're only going up and getting better every day.  The Pioneers are here to win and fear the Moose."
