UC holds spring game

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Utica College football team played its annual spring game Saturday, pitting soon to be sophomores, juniors and seniors on opposite blue and white teams in a three quarter exhibition.

The game though is just a warm-up for next Sunday, when the Pioneers head to Quebec City, for an exhibition against the Quebec Faucons.

NCAA Division III teams are allowed to play an international game once every three off-seasons.  In 2011, the Pioneers beat the Saguenay Mercenaries 75-8 in Saguenay, Canada, which is two hours north of Quebec City.

Of Saturday's spring game, UC head coach Blaise Faggiano says, "Just a great opportunity for participation and for our kids.  That's what young players want, they want to get a chance to play and show the coaches what they can do.  All the kids out there today when you can have 22 of your own players instead of 11, we learned a lot about our football team today and we're excited to take this trip to Quebec City next weekend."

Coach Faggiano also announced that Ilion's Jon Treen will be one of UC's captains next fall.
