Black Knights get big win at home over West Genny

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - The RFA hockey team kept their perfect record intact Friday night, winning a huge Section III Division I crossover game at Kennedy Arena, 4-3 over West Genesee.  The Wildcats have defeated the Black Knights each of the last two years in the Section III championship at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

But heading in, RFA had said they were more concerned with this game, winning at home and seeing what this year's team was made of, as opposed to worrying about the past.

Early on it looked like the Wildcats would roll after scoring two goals on Andrew Ross.  But Tyler Williams and Nick Mecca would score within the last 5:30 of the first quarter, tying the score at two heading into the first intermission.

The Black Knights then took the lead in the second, then scored another in the third to go up 4-2.  West Genny would add another to get back within one, but RFA held on.  Joey Rutkowski had a goal and two assists for RFA.

With the win, the Black Knights improved to 7-0 on the season and is off until they open their holiday tournament, next Friday night at Kennedy Arena against Syracuse-Corcoran.  The first puck is set to drop at 7.
