Hall of Famer postage stamps unveiled as Induction day nears
COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (WKTV) - Ahead of Sunday's Baseball Hall of Fame Inductions, the United States Postal Service unveiled stamps to honor some of the game's all-time greats.
Hall of Famers Ted Williams, Joe Dimaggio, Willie Stargell and Larry Doby get the special recognition.
Class of 2007 Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn was a speaker at Friday's unveiling and said he's sure these four men weren't thinking about one day being on a stamp when they were playing.
Gwynn said, "I think as players you kind of don't think of that part of it. It's great to be a Hall of Famer and be remembered in these halls, but I look at that, that's what I think of, forever, living."
The U.S. Postal Service has been honoring baseball greats since 1939. More than 50 stamps honoring the game of baseball have been issued.
