Hall of Famers hit the links

By JASON POWLES

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (WKTV) - Induction Saturday means golf for many of the Hall of Famers returning to Cooperstown. NEWSChannel 2 had the chance to rub elbows with some of the best players to ever play the game of baseball.

"It's like Christmas and Easter and your birthday all rolled into one." Says 2005 Inductee Wade Boggs. "Someone asked me what are you doing this weekend and I said I'm going to baseball heaven."

"You get a chance to know these guys, they are great guys but when you know them on the baseball field you don't think that." Says George Brett. "You get tired of them beating you and tired of them getting hits against you. Now we are all something special, we're a part of a great fraternity. Its good to see these guys every year."

Of the three Inductees this year, just one played a round of golf on Saturday. Bert Blyleven is a pretty good golfer. Once the day is done, its all about the big speech. "I'm pretty excited. I'm very honored. My speech started at 55 minutes ive got it down to 45 now. Its gonna be awesome, I'm gonna put you guys to sleep. No, (haha) I'm looking forward to it."

The weekend culminates with the Induction Ceremony on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown.
