HCCC Lax Swept In National Semis, T&F Wins Title

Sports WKTV

The NJCAA national semifinals remained a glass ceiling for the Herkimer County Community College women's lacrosse team on Saturday, as the Lady Generals fell to CCBC Catonsville 14-6 on their home turf at Wehrum Stadium. It was HCCC's fourth straight appearance in the national tournament, and each time the team has failed to make it to the championship game.

Herkimer came out strong in the first half, taking a 4-2 lead. But Catonsville fired off three straight goals to end the half for a 7-5 lead at the break. The Lady Generals' offense disappeared in the second half, and the Lady Cardinals pulled away for the victory.

Catonsville will face Harford, which beat Monroe 11-8 in the other semifinal, in the national championship Sunday at 1:00. Herkimer ends the season 8-5.

Meanwhile at Nassau Community College, the HCCC men's team also suffered a semifinal defeat, losing to CCBC Essex 17-10.

Essex advances to play Nassau, which upset two-time defending champion and top-ranked Onondaga, in the national championship on Sunday. Herkimer ends the season 15-3.

Despite the lacrosse losses, Saturday was not a total wash for HCCC, as the track & field team won its first-ever team national title at SUNY Delhi.
