Colgate preps for upcoming season

By Sports WKTV

HAMILTON, N.Y. (WKTV) -  The Colgate Raiders wrapped up two-a-day practices on Friday and are a week away from opening up the 2009 season. This years Raiders are very strong in their skill positions.

The offense will once again be led by quarterback Greg Sullivan and he'll be handing the ball off to Nate Eachus. Wideout Pat Simonds is also back. Other strengths will be on the defensive line and the linebackers. There are questions marks on the offensive line, defensive back field and the kicking game.

Despite their strengths, preseason prognostications don't have the Raiders bowling teams over. Tthat's just fine with them. "We have our work cut out for us. It's a type of year you look foward to," says head coach Dick Biddle. "We lost a lot of good players and we are not picked very high in the league. The pressure is on some other teams, and maybe we can sneak up on them."

Sullivan, who threw for over 1,600 yards last season said a losing season is not an option. "It's the Patriot League of bust. Thats the way coach Biddle prepares us. We have a lot of good guys coming back so we should have a good season."

The Raiders open the second Saturday, September 5th when they host Monmouth at 6:00.
