CLINTON, N.Y. -- Jon Sanford '11 and Sam Dwyer '10 scored one goal apiece to lead Hamilton College to a 2-1 win against visiting Utica College in a non-league men's soccer game played at Love Field on Oct. 14.

Hamilton (7-3-1 overall) pushed its win streak to five games. The Continentals improved to 30-1-0 all-time against Utica. The Pioneers' lone win in the series was by a 3-2 score in 1984. Utica dropped to 3-8-1 overall and is 0-5-1 in its last six games.

Sanford -- the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Upstate offensive player of the week -- put Hamilton on top in the 12th minute with his team-leading sixth goal and fifth in the last four games. Marcus Dormanen '10 played a long pass ahead to Sanford, who kicked the ball right at a Utica defender. Sanford controlled the loose ball and rifled a shot past goalkeeper Kevin Murphy '11 from about 20 yards out.

The Pioneers tied the score in the 58th minute. A ball was played into the box where Continentals goalie Eric Boole '13 punched it out. Jonathan Wood '12 settled the loose ball and lofted it over Boole and into the back of the net before he could return to his line. The goal is Wood's third this year.

Sam Dwyer '10 gave Hamilton the lead for good in the 69th minute. Murphy came off his line to intercept a cross from the left side. He dove on top of the ball, but it squirted free and went right to Dwyer, who deposited a shot from 10 yards away into the empty net for his first goal this year.

Boole made three saves for the Continentals and Murphy stopped seven shots for Utica. Hamilton enjoyed a 17-8 advantage in shots.

The Continentals travel to Union College for a Liberty League contest on Saturday, Oct. 24. The Pioneers travel to Ithaca College on Saturday, Oct. 17.
