CLINTON, N.Y. - Joe Buicko '11 finished with two goals and Scott Hefferman '11 stopped all 14 shots he faced in the third period to lead Hamilton College to a 5-3 win against New England College in a NESCAC/ECAC East men's ice hockey crossover game at Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Saturday.
Harry Biggs '10 and Ryan Guerin '11 chipped in one goal and one assist apiece for Hamilton. Joe Houk '13 was credited with three assists. Hefferman relieved starting goalie Ian Stearns '10, who made 16 saves in the first two periods. The Continentals (12-8-2 overall, 9-7-1 NESCAC) were 3-for-8 on the power play.
Johan Granath '10 paced New England with one goal and one assist. Mark Ehl '10 picked up two assists and Aaron Harvey '11 made 25 saves. The Pilgrims (9-12-2, 5-10-2 ECAC East) held a slim 33-30 advantage in shots and were 2-for-6 on the power play.
Guerin gave Hamilton a 3-1 lead with his second goal this season at 5:06 of the second period as the Continentals skated with a 4-on-3 advantage. New England roared back to tie the score with two power-play goals later in the period. Jonathan Boxill '13 made the score 3-2 with his fourth goal with 5:11 left, and Granath tallied his 11th goal with 1:42 remaining to tie things up.
Biggs gave the lead right back to Hamilton with his fourth goal just 1:17 into the third period. Buicko's ninth goal sealed the victory with 3:02 left. Both goals came on the power play.
The Continentals host the University of Massachusetts-Boston on Friday, Feb. 19, for another NESCAC/ECAC East crossover. The Pilgrims travel to Colby College on Friday.
