SYRAUCSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse football team ended its six-game win streak in the Carrier Dome, losing to No. 3/4 Clemson (5-0) on Saturday in front of 48,961 fans, the largest crowd since 2000. Tajh Boyd matched his own school record of five touchdown passes in the 49-14 loss.
Syracuse (2-3) put together 323 yards of offense on the ground, sparked by Jerome Smith (125 yards) and Devante McFarlane (95 yards).
Ashton Broyld was the main target for Syracuse, finishing the game with five catches for a career-high 64 yards.
Terrel Hunt completed eight of 24 passes for 52 yards and rushed for 57 yards on 13 carries. Hunt also made his first career reception in the game off a pass from Broyld on a trick play.
Julian Whigham snagged an interception in the second quarter, ending Boyd's streak of 187 pass attempts without a pick. Whigham has recorded an interception in each of the last two games.
The SU defense tallied eight tackles for a loss of 34 yards including four sacks. Marquis Spruill led all SU defenders with nine tackles, all solo, two for a loss.
