DiamondDawgs fall on WKTV Night

LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs fell to Glens Falls 9-4 Saturday on WKTV Night at Veterans Memorial Park.

Mohawk Valley pitcher Anthony Pastrana (Queens, NY/ Dominican) faced off against a familiar face, as he faced off against the Golden Eagles, with his coach from Dominican (NY) on the other side, coaching the opposing team. The Diamond Dawgs tried to give him all the support he could to best his coach’s team, but gave up five runs in the eighth inning as the Golden Eagles ruined game two of the current home stand, 9-4.

Pastrana did not fare well, going only 4 2/3 innings, hitting four batters, and throwing three wild pitches. He lived dangerously all night, getting out of jam after jam, but eventually would be taken out of the game in the fifth.

Golden Eagle Jack Fowler (Shrewsberry, NJ/Felician College) pitched a solid game tonight, and got the win.

Glens Falls also had their mistakes tonight, racking up three of the five total errors.

Golden Eagle shortstop JQ Folena (Grove, CA/Cabrillo) was the big proponent of the Glens Falls rally, going 2-5 and scoring two runs, while his teammate Nick McNeil (Jacksonville, FL/Nova Southeastern) provided three runs of his own, going two for four in a winning effort.

The Golden Eagles batted around in the eighth inning, cranking out three doubles, two of which were ground-rule doubles.

The Diamond Dawgs finish up their three-game homestand tomorrow night as they face the Elmira Pioneers. It is the Diamond Dawgs’ annual “pink game,” in which the players wear pink to support breast cancer research. The Golden Eagles will travel back home tomorrow, where they will face the defending league champion Amsterdam Mohawks.
