HAMILTON, N.Y. (WKTV) - Brett Field, a graduate of VVS in 2013 as well as a Sports Express All-Star during the 2012 season, will be starting for the Colgate football team this year. Just a sophomore, Field has worked hard to earn the spot, at the left side defensive end.
NEWSChannel 2 Sports Director Mike Levin visited with Field and the Raiders prior to their second to last day of training camp at Andy Kerr Stadium Friday.
"I just went out there and did my best," says Field. "I was always working hard, I'm always trying to do whatever I can to help this team out and push myself to the next level. It's a great opportunity, I'm thankful that I have this opportunity right now and I'm just going to prove to the coaches all I can do out there."
"He was a kid that in the spring we kind of put him there already, we said this is a kid that's probably going to play for us at that position and he certainly hasn't let us down," added new Colgate Head Coach Dan Hunt. "Actually, he's played all three spots on the defensive line, he's been a nose, he's been a left, he's been a right. He's definitely going to be out there from the first snap and we're expecting big things from him."
Field will be part of Colgate's new 3-4 defensive scheme, which is part of an effort to improve on 2013, when the Raiders gave up over 32 points and 200 yards a game.
