Pioneers garner recognition in preseason national poll

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Utica College field hockey team has received votes in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Preseason Poll, released Tuesday.

UC currently sits just outside the top 20 with 74 total votes, putting the Pioneers at No. 24. 

The defending Empire 8 Champions return all but one player from last year's squad that advanced to the "Sweet Sixteen" of the NCAA Tournament, before falling to DePauw University 3-2 in overtime.

Utica will face two teams ranked in the top 20 this season.  The Pioneers take on No.
18, University of Rochester at home on Sunday, September 8th, before traveling to Saratoga Springs, NY for a match up against No. 15 Skidmore College on Wednesday, September 25th. 

UC opens its season as it travels to Canton to take on Cedar Crest College at the St. Lawrence Tournament, Saturday at noon.
