UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Utica College women's basketball team outscored visiting Wells College 46-20 in the first half of play on its way to a convincing 73-51 victory Thursday night at the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium.  Sophomore Samantha Stayer (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) netted a career-high 23 points for UC, while Marissa Kahane (Sayville, NY/Sayville) added 12 points, including three 3-pointers in the first half alone.

Utica snapped a two-game slide and improved to 3-2 overall  headed into Saturday's cross-town match-up against visiting Hamilton College (2 p.m.).  Bridget Greenwald (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) chipped in with 13 rebounds and ten points as she kept her double-double average intact.  She also added a team-high four steals.

The Pioneers jumped out to an incredible 21-0 lead in the first 5:41 of the contest behind 12 quick points from Stayer.  Utica would not back down and increased its lead to 44-6 with just under three minutes to go in the first half of play.  The 38 point lead proved to be their largest of the game as the visitors went on a 14-2 run to close out the first half.

Wells (1-4) opened the second half on a 15-8 run to put a dent in their deficit, but the Express still trailed by 19, 54-35, with 12:25 to go in regulation.  UC answered with a 7-0 run in just over a minute to push its lead back to 26 points, 61-35, with 11 minutes to go.

Wells went onto to outscore Utica 16-12 in the final ten minutes of action but it was not enough as the Pioneers cruised to a 22 point non-conference win.

Senior forward Meghan Fiore (Epping, NH/Epping) netted seven points and added five rebounds and needs just four points to surpass Pioneer Hall of Famer Daphne Selby for sole possession of sixth place on the College's all-time scoring list.

Freshman guard Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) scored six points and added six rebounds for UC, while Deenan Muzafar netted her first three collegiate points.

Wells was led once again by Camden, NY native Ashley Roser who scored 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.  Roser recently became the program's first 1,000 point scorer.  Holly Erkson netted nine points, while Theresa Hernandez added six points off the bench.

Utica hit all five of its 3-pointers in the first half and the Pioneers shot 48.6% from the floor over the course of the first 20 minute stretch.  Point guard Christy Traglia (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) and senior Brittany Baudanza (Staten Island, NY/Staten Island) combined for five points, five rebounds and five assists.  Raquel Baudanza (Staten Island, NY/New Dorp) added five points and three boards.  Freshman Kelcei Edmonds (Pittsburgh, PA/Shady Side Academy) buried both of her free-throws to account for two points.
