Four college teams going dancing
WKTV - Four college teams are going dancing after clinching berths in their NCAA Division III tournaments this weekend. Two of them, Oneonta and Morrisville State, are men's soccer teams, with one in women's soccer, Colgate and the other, Utica College, in field hockey.
On Saturday Oneonta clinched their second straight trip to the dance, beating Plattsburgh 2-1 Saturday in the SUNYAC championship. On Sunday, Morrisville joined them, clinching their first ever NCAA tourney berth with a 2-1 overtime win over Penn State Abingdon in the NEAC final.
The Colgate women's soccer team won their eleventh Patriot League title Sunday, with a 1-0 victory over Army in the final. Jenna Raepple scored the game winner in the 83rd minute. It's the first tourney win for the Lady Raiders since 2009, when they hosted.
The UC field hockey team hosted the Empire 8 tournament because top seed Stevens was unable to host due to the storm damage from Sandy. The Pioneers beat the Ducks 4-3 in the championship at Gaetano Stadium Sunday, cliching just the second NCAA tourney berth in team history. The only other time UC made it was 2005.
Louise Steele-Norton, who broke the UC goal scoring record this season, had the game winner with 4:45 to go. The Pioneers set a new team record for wins this season, with 14.
