UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) -  The Utica College Pioneers football team began preseason practices, this week, with the first game of their season just around the corner.

The Pioneers are coming off of their first winning season in 7 years, finishing last year with a 6-4 overall record, while going 4-3 in conference play.

UC comes into this year returning 25 seniors and 24 juniors.

The team is hoping that the veteran leadership, and familiarity will help them build upon last year's success, and help them compete for a conference title during the 2013-14 campaign.

"There are many people that have worked hard over the last six years to get us to that season last year, and laid a great foundation," head coach Blaise Faggiano said. "Now this year we want to take it to the next level and continue on the winning path, and then get to that postseason."

The Pioneers' quest for supremacy begins on September 7th, as they host Lewis and Clark College.

Week one kickoff is set for noon.
