UC Hockey to host season ticket pickup party


UTICA, N.Y. - The Utica College hockey program is set to host its second annual  Pioneer Hockey Season Ticket Pick-Up Party on Tuesday, October 22nd.  The season ticket holder pick-up party will take place in the Strebel Student Center Lounge on the Utica College campus from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. for students, faculty and staff and from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. for all other season ticket holders.  At the party each season ticket holder will receive their 2013-2014 season ticket booklets. Please bring identification.

The party will feature a meet and greet with Pioneer players and coaches, and hors d'oeuvres will be served throughout the event in the Pioneer Pub, which is adjacent to the Strebel Student Center Lounge.

Division III's largest hockey fan base for seven consecutive seasons has purchased a school-record 1,868 season tickets for the Pioneers' 2013-2014 campaign at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

The UC men's hockey program is coming off its best season in program-history as the Pioneers made their first appearance in the NCAA Division III Frozen Four.  UC finished the season with a program-best 21-6-1 overall record, including an 11-3-1 mark in the competitive ECAC West, and an impressive 14-3 record at the friendly confines of the Utica Memorial Auditorium.  The Pioneers also won the ECAC West regular season title on its way to earning the program's first at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament.

In 17 home games last year, 63,824 fans came through the turnstiles at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Utica's average home attendance of 3,754 fans per home game set a new single season record for home attendance in Division III, as the Pioneers shattered their own previous record of 3,253 set in 2011-12.

UC's average attendance last season ranked 19th nationally at all levels of NCAA hockey (DI-DIII). The Pioneers sold out 11-of-17 home games, including the school's first-ever NCAA Tournament quarterfinal victory at home against Bowdoin on March 9th.

The UC women's hockey team wrapped up its 2012-2013 campaign with an overall record of 16-9-2 and made its 11th post season appearance in the program's 12-year history. UC lost in the semifinal round of the conference tournament to Elmira College, which went on to win the national championship.

The UC women's hockey team opens play at the Aud on Nov. 1st when the Pioneers host an exhibition against Oakville at 2:30 p.m. The men's hockey team will open up regular season play on Nov. 1 on the road against host Nazareth College at 7 p.m. before kicking off the regular season at home on Nov. 2nd against Brockport State at 7 p.m.
