UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Junior Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) scored twice and freshman Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) added two assists to help lift the Utica College women's ice hockey team over Williams College, 3-0 Friday night.
The Pioneers got on the board just under four minutes into the contest as Myers redirected Reed's shot and beat Williams goalie Rachel Nguyen. Senior Meghan Willett (Worcester, MA/Cushing Academy) added the second assist on the play.
After over a period and a half of scoreless action, senior Meghan McMahon (Gardner, MA/St. Marks (MA)) netted her second goal of the season off assists by Samantha Pucci (Pearl River, NY/Connecticut Polar Bears) and Lindsay Norton (Eden, NY/Buffalo Bisons). Pucci received a pass from Norton and fired a low shot on net. Nguyen stopped the first shot and a rebound before McMahon was able to slide it home.
Myers notched her second of the game at 6:30 of the third period off another pass from Reed. Reed worked the puck down low and played it to the front of the net where Myers made a nice spin move to get around the defender and put a puck in the left side of the net for her team-leading fifth goal of the year. Kristin Beckman also added a helper on the play.
Despite 13 power plays in the game, neither team was able to capitalize on the man advantage as all goals came at even strength.
Nguyen stopped 29 shots on the night, while Utica goalie Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) had 19 saves to pick up her first shutout of the season.
UC improves to 4-3 overall while Williams drops to 2-2 on the season. The Pioneers return to action next Saturday as they host cross-town rival Hamilton College for the second-to-last game before the winter break. Game time will be at 4 p.m. The Ephs return home to face Sacred Heart on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
