Mt. Markham Baseball Beats Herkimer

Sports WKTV

The Mustangs of Mt. Markham galloped to victory on Wednesday thanks to a clutch hit and a great pitching performance, beating Herkimer in a Center State Conference crossover matchup 4-1.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, Mt. Markham put its first two runners on base, then Kyle Maxson hit a three-run home run to right to put the Mustangs ahead for good. Prior to this season the hit would have actually been a ground rule double because there was no fence, but this year head coach Ken Deming installed one, and it paid off.

From there, pitcher Jeff Ratcliffe took over, throwing a complete game four-hitter, allowing just one run and striking out five.

Mt. Markham is now 4-1 overall; Herkimer drops to 3-2.
