DOLGEVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - In a game that was either a great defensive battle or a great offensive struggle, Dolgeville rallied to beat rival Mohawk 12-7 at a drizzly Bill Bynon Field Saturday in the teams' first meeting in three years.
With Mohawk leading 7-6 after three quarters, the Blue Devils finally strung together a drive to go ahead early in the fourth.  After a 40-yard pass got the Devils to the Mohawk 34-yard line, they found themselves facing 4th and 4 at the 28.  An 11-yard completion gave them a fresh set of downs at the 17.  Three plays later, quarterback Zachary Goyette threw deep for Alex Snyder, who got a big break with a non-call on a pushoff of the defensive back and made a great diving catch for a 20-yard touchdown.  After the two-point conversion failed, Dolgeville led 12-7.
Mohawk had chances to answer down the stretch, but turnovers proved costly.  With 4:12 remaining, the Mohicans lost a fumble at their own 41-yard line.  Dolgeville then gave the ball back on a fumble of its own at the Mohawk 41 with 2:45 left, but the Mohicans fumbled it away again just 10 seconds later, and the Devils ran out the clock for the victory.
This was the first meeting between the teams since the first round of the 2005 Section III playoffs, which Mohawk won 25-20.  Their last regular season matchup was in 2004.
Dolgeville took the first lead of the game on a 5-yard touchdown run by Clay Ardoin in the first quarter.  Mohawk went ahead in the second on a 2-yard TD run by Mack Werenczak.
