New Hartford prepares to take on Corcoran Sunday

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - The New Hartford Spartans are tuning up for their Section III final matchup with Corcoran this Sunday. They solidified their place in the championship by beating defending champion Skaneateles 4-1 this past Wednesday. The Lakers beat the Spartans last year in the first round so this time out was a little revenge.

Now, New Hartford must face Corcoran (17-4) at the Syracuse War Memorial on Sunday. For the most part, the Spartans have been able to slice and dice their opponents. They have scored twelve goals in their two playoffs games. However, Corcoran can score as well. They have tallied eleven in the sections so this has the potential to be a shootout.

The Spartans' junior forward, Mike Zalewski said, "We're still calm and still loose, we're still going to be loose before Sunday's game, we wanted it all year, we're just going to be confident and ready to go."

The team is confident with their ability based on this season. Senior forward Tom Fiorentino said, "We can't really change anything than what we've been doing all year. We've been successful, just look at our record. I think if we just do the same things we've been doing, we'll be all right."

This could be the final game for the seniors on the team. Goalie Dylan Smith said, "It's been an awesome senior year, I can't ask for much more I hope we are going to take it all the way. I hope our offense stays strong and our defense stays strong and I will ll try to hold it down in net."

Game time on Sunday against Corcoran is 1:00pm at the Syracuse War Memorial.
