By By JASON POWLES

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Whitesboro Warriors beat  New Hartford 60-30 at the Carrier Dome on Friday to take home their third Section III, Class A championship in five years.

The Warriors came out strong in the first quarter taking an early lead with both Mike Sullivan and Nick Mauro running in touchdowns of 46 and 37 yards respectively. Whitesboro led 13-0 after the first quarter, a very similar scenario to their first match-up where Whitesboro was overcome.

New Hartford made that attempt in overcoming Whitesboro early in the second quarter. Joe Carcone ran in a seven yard touchdown but the two-point conversion was no good. However, momentum shifted back to Whitesboro as just before the half, Kevin Flannigan caught a touchdown pass from Sean Jones to give the Warriors a 19-6 at the half.

To start the second half, New Harford looked solid. They marched right down the field capping off the drive with a one yard touchdown leap by Carcone, who was named Spartans MVP with four touchdowns on the night. That score cut the lead to 19-12.

Whitesboro answered back with Sean Jones coneecting with Chris Gibbs for another touchdown. Jones finished the night 10 of 13 for 162 yards and three scores.  Kevin Flannigan also had two scores on the day, one rushing one receiving.

However, the star of the day was Whitesboro game MVP Nick Mauro. He scored four rushing touchdowns and took a kickoff return 79 yards for a score. He finished with 182 yards rushing on the night.

The Warriors move on to the first round of the state playoffs at Union Endicott next Friday and will play Section IV champ Corning East on Saturday, November 14 at 11:00 a.m.
