Sauquoit girls soccer tops Elmira Notre Dame 5-3

ITHACA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Sauquoit lady Indians are headed to the state final four with the 5-3 win over Elmira Notre Dame in the Class C regional final. They will face Frewsburg of Section VI in the state semifinal on Friday at SUNY Cortland. The time has yet to be announced.

Sauquoit trailed 1-0 at the start of the second half when their offense kicked in. Kelsey Hogel connected with Elisa Marchione to tie the game at one. Not even a minute later, off a direct kick from Amanda Orsino, Sierra Kiss scored on the loose ball in front to give the Indians a 2-1 lead.

Later in the half, after Elmira tied the game at two, Alex Benn scored on an assist from Meghan Gaffeny for the 3-2 lead. Gaffney and Orsino also scored second half goals. Vanessa Jecko finished with eight saves on the day.

The Indians improve to 21-0 in their quest for a state championship. A special thanks to Fred Orsino for the video used in the story.
