Jamesville-DeWitt beats Newark for Class A title, 59-45
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (AP) - Tournament MVP Dajuan Coleman had 12 points and 14 rebounds to lift Jamesville-DeWitt to its third straight title with a 59-45 win over Newark in the Class A final Sunday at the New York State Boys High School Basketball Championships.
Lamar Kearse scored 17 for the Red Rams (24-0), who also got 11 points and 10 rebounds from Tyler Cavanaugh. Javon McCrea had 16 points and 17 rebounds in a losing effort for the Reds (23-2). Ben Holt added 13 points. Jamesville-DeWitt led 26-20 at halftime and went up by 15 on Zach Firestone's 3-pointer from the corner with 5:05 left in the game. The Red Rams shot 52 percent from the field, while Newark struggled, shooting 24 percent. Second-time finalist Newark, from Wayne County in Section 5, reached the finals with a 55-48 win over Westbury in Saturdays semifinals. Fifth-time finalist Jamesville-DeWitt, out of Onondaga County in Section 3, got to the championship with a 63-53 win against Red Hook Saturday in the semis. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press.
