NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Derek Bard scored the game winning goal thirty seconds into overtime Wednesday to deliver an opening night win for New Hartford hockey over Auburn. Yes, that Derek Bard, the golf phenom who signed a letter of intent to hit the links at the University of Virginia just two weeks prior, is already a force on the ice.
The Spartans also have a female sensation in Annika Zalewski, who scored New Hartford's first goal of the game, in the first period. Cullen Moran also scored for the Spartans, who were tied at one with the Maroons after both the first and second periods, then tied at two after three.
Mike Cuchiarale had 21 saves in net for the Spartans, who next host Fulton Saturday at one.
