WKTV - It's the most wonderful time of year if you're a football fan, getting ready for a new season. In 2012, Herkimer and Westmoreland were the only two Mohawk Valley teams to make it to the Carrier Dome. But both teams fell, meaning that for the first time since 2007, no local teams won a section title.
After winning the C-2 crown, Herkimer fell short in the overall C-final against Skaneateles, their second straight trip to the Dome. The Magicians have All-Star Austin Mills back at QB, backs Matt Borek and Ryan Fahy, as well as a host of receiving options.
Now down in Class D, if Herk makes a run this year in sectionals, they could run into Westmoreland. The Bulldogs got a huge win over West Canada Valley in the semifinals last year, before falling to Sandy Creek at the Dome. Although they'll have a new QB under center, Westmo still has skill guys like Tim Harrison and Rob Heitzmann back.
