H.S. Soccer: Local soccer teams sweep at regionals
WKTV - All four soccer teams from the Mohawk Valley who made it to regionals have advanced to the state semifinals after wins on Saturday. Both Poland boys and girls teams, the Sauquouit Valley girls and the Proctor Boys.
In the first game of the day, the Class D regional from Norwich, the Poland Boys beat Marathon in penalty kicks, after a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. The Tornadoes will face Chazy in the state final four next Saturday at 12:30pm from the Twin Towers Grass Field in Middletown. It's the first trip to the final four for Poland since 2007.
In the other boys game, the Class AA regional at Morrisville State, Proctor continued their magical run as the Raiders followed up their first ever section title with their first ever regional win, 9-8 in penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie after regulation. Proctor will meet either Arlington or Washingtonville in the state semis next Saturday at 4 p.m. from the Faller Stadium Turf Field in Middletown.
The two girls teams from the Mohawk Valley played a doubleheader at Fulton. Sauquoit Valley won the first game, 2-0 over Unatego in the Class C regional. The Lady Indians advance to their third final four in four years, next Saturday at noon against Holland at Cortland High School.
In the second girls game from Fulton, Poland beat Franklin 4-1 in the Class D regional, clinching the Lady Tornadoes' first final four berth since 1998. Poland will meet Ellicottville Saturday at 2:30 p.m. from Homer High School.
