SYRACUSE, N.Y. - In Thursday night's girls basketball section finals at the Carrier Dome, Notre Dame and Cooperstown both won titles. In the Class B final, the Lady Jugglers topped #1 South Jefferson 54-45 in overtime, while in the overall C final, the Lady Redskins knocked off Weedsport 59-44.
In the first game of the night, Notre Dame came from behind and played without NEWSChannel 2 Athlete of the Week Emily Durr for much of the second half, as she had four fouls. Anari Harris was one of the ND players who came through during that stretch. The sophomore had 17 points on the game.
Despite a lead of six at one point, the Lady Jugglers couldn't hold the lead and South Jefferson tied it late to force overtime. But Durr came back and took over in the extra period, finishing with 15 points to help Notre Dame win their second section title in four years.
In the second game, Cooperstown went up early, 15-6 at the end of first quarter, 29-18 at the half and 35-18 in the third quarter. The Warriors came back and pulled within six before the Redskins pulled away again.
Sumer Murdock had 21 points, hitting five three pointers, while Alannah Haggerty added 15. The Lady Redskins won their first section title since 2008.
