SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WKTV) - It's been a long time coming, but the New Hartford boys basketball team is finally going back to the Section III Class A final. The #4 seeded Spartans, who last won the section title in 2007, beat #1 Carthage 57-43 Sunday night in the section semifinals at OCC's SRC Arena and will meet #2 Bishop Ludden in the Class A final at the Carrier Dome next Sunday night at 6:30.
Jordan Henderson led New Hartford with 18 points, while twin brother Jared added 17. Tom Clifford chipped in nine, on a trio of three pointers. After trailing 27-24 at halftime, the Spartans outscored the Comets 15-5 in the third and 33-16 in the second half as a whole.
In other action Saturday, both boys and girls teams from NY Mills advanced to the section finals, with the boys beating Faith Heritage 56-43 in the Class D semis, and the girls edging Copenhagen 43-42.
The boys will face Cincinnatus, Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in the D final, while the girls meet rival Oriskany in the girls final, Wednesday at 6. The top seeded Lady Redskins, undefeated and the defending Class D champion, advanced with a 52-21 win over Sackets Harbor Sunday.
Clinton was the lone Mohawk Valley team who was not victorious Sunday, as the Warriors fell 62-49 to Westhill in the Class B semis. Clinton, who had a fantastic season, finishes with a record of 16-4.
