WESTMORELAND, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Westmoreland football team gained a measure of revenge against Sandy Creek Saturday as the Bulldogs beat the Comets 30-20 to clinch the Section III Class D Central title. Westmo lost to Sandy Creek in the Class D final last fall at the Carrier Dome.
Tim Harrison rushed 20 times for 121 yards and a touchdown, while Rob Heitzmann added 92 yards on 19 carries and a score.
Bulldog QB Tyler Deveans got his team on the board in the first quarter, running in a 54 yarder for a touchdown. Harrison later scored on a one yarder to give Westmo a 14-0 lead.
After the Comets scored to cut the lead in half, Heitzmann got in the end zone to give the Dawgs another two touchdown lead. Westmo led 24-14 at halftime.
While the Bulldogs are 5-1 overall, they're now 5-0 in the D Central and even with a loss next Saturday in their regular season finale with Oriskany, that would guarantee at least a tie with Sandy Creek and Pulaski, both of whom Westmo's defeated.
