WESTMORELAND, N.Y. (WKTV) - General Brown did something to Westmoreland Saturday that hadn't been done since 2007: beat the Bulldogs in the regular season, which the Lions did in an exciting 19-18 finish. The Bulldogs, who trailed by seven in the fourth quarter, scored with less than three minutes left and went for the win with a two point conversion that failed.
Kyle Scordo scored all three of General Brown's touchdowns, a 25 and a 39 yarder in the second quarter and a ten yarder in the fourth. Kendall Vecchio's extra point after Scordo's first score ended up being the difference in the game, as that was the only PAT that was successful.
Westmo rebounded from a sluggish start, trailing 13-0 in the second after Scordo's first two TDs. But Bulldog QB Dan Smith jump started his team, throwing a pair of TDs before haltime, a 19 yarder to Ben Rolewicz and a 21 yarder to Mark Donahue. But Westmo still trailed 13-12 at the break, thanks to a missed extra point and unsuccessful two-point pass.
Smith finished the game with 18 completions in 29 attempts for 253 yards and the two scores through the air. He also reached the end zone on the ground, on the eight yard TD in the fourth. Rolewicz caught seven of those passes for 82 yards and the second quarter score. Jason Colburn also had eight receptions for 91 yards.
The Bulldogs (1-1) will try to rebound next Saturday, when they head to Clinton.
