ORISKANY, N.Y. (WKTV) - The defending Class D champion Westmoreland football team clinched a spot in the postseason after a last minute win over Oriskany, 28-22 Saturday at Bernie Block Field. Devin Williams scored on a one yard touchdown with 39 seconds to go to put the Bulldogs on top to stay and give them a seventh straight win in the Cider Street rivalry.
A game that was just 6-6 at halftime exploded into offensive mode in the second half, with Westmo getting two touchdowns from Zach Green in addition to the game winner. Austin Smith threw two of his three TDs in the final 24 minutes as well, one to Alex Liddy, who had two on the game, then the other to Tyrone Cowell.
Green finished the game with 133 yards on 24 carries and the two scores. Robert Heitzmann added 117 yards and a score on 12 carries.
Westmoreland's first playoff game will be announced along with the rest of the Section III brackets on Sunday.
