Yaz among 2014 inductees in NYSPHSAA Hall of Fame

LATHAM, N.Y. (AP) - Former Boston Red Sox star Carl Yastrzemski is among six new inductees to be enshrined in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association's Hall of Fame.
Yaz was a three-sport star at Bridgehampton High School on Long Island. He was a career .512 hitter, threw a no-hitter with 18 strikeouts in the Suffolk championship game in 1957, and set the Suffolk County record for most points in a varsity basketball season the same year.
Yastrzemski went on to play 23 years for the Red Sox, winning an MVP award and Triple Crown. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989.
Also selected for the high school honor were Hermon Card, Karen Lopez, Dr. Mira Martincich, Mary Onken, and Robert Southworth.
