NEWPORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - After winning its first meeting with West Canada Valley 16-0 and holding an 8-3 lead after the top of the sixth in the second meeting Wednesday, a win should have been guaranteed for the Hamilton baseball team, ranked No. 3 in the state in Class D. But the Indians came roaring back with two runs in the sixth and four in the seventh for a stunning comeback win and a takeover of first place in Center State Conference Division III.
After getting within 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh, West Canada Valley loaded the bases with one out. Cody Crossett then lined a single past a diving Dan Meeks in center, scoring the tying and winning runs.
The victory puts the Indians in first place in the division with a 6-2 record (8-10 overall) and drops the Emerald Knights to second at 5-2 (12-3).
Austin Zacek led West Canada Valley's offense with three hits and three RBI. Kinon Nolan-Finkel had five RBI for Hamilton on a bases-loaded single and bases-loaded triple.
