Oriskany tops Brookfield in section final

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Oriskany baseball team won their first section title since they repeated in 2006-07 with an 8-2 victory over defending champ Brookfield Saturday at Delutis Field.  Junior pitcher Austin Smith pitched a complete game, striking out twelve Beavers.

Dan Buehler started off the scoring in the first inning, with a two run double scoring Sam Martell and Noah Lupia.  Oriskany extended their lead in the second, on an RBI double by Lupia scoring Trevor O'Bryan.  Then Nate Keating drove in two more, on a single scoring Martel and Smith.

Brookfield lost for just the second time this year, finishing at 17-2, with pitcher Cody Beeching losing for the first time this season (6-1).

This was the third time the game was scheduled to be played, with both Tuesday's and Friday's scheduled games at Alliance Bank Stadium in Syracuse postponed by weather.  The game was moved to Rome early Saturday, after ABS was deemed unplayable.

The Redskins (17-5) now advance to the regionals Tuesday at 4 p.m. from Broome CC in Binghamton, where they'll meet Section IV champ Hancock.
