CLINTON, N.Y. (WKTV) - In a battle for second place in the Oneida County league, Roberts picked up a huge 18-5 mercy-rule shortened win at Helmuth-Ingals Thursday. With the win, Roberts moved into second, at 10-4, while H-I fell to 10-5.
Roberts got going in the first inning, as Andy Hurteau hit a two run home run to give his team a 2-0 cushion. They added to that with five runs in the second, on three straight hits. The first two, a single by John Iselo and a ground rule double by Justin Weakley, drove in two runs apiece. The third, another ground rule double, this time by pitcher Chas Parsons, plated one more.
With two more runs in the third, three in the fourth and six in the fifth, Roberts was well on their way to clinching the game in just five innings. H-I, who got a run in both the third and fourth innings, got three more in the fifth, but it wasn't enough to keep the game going.
