Whitestown tops Smith in Legion action

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Whitestown scored four runs in the second inning and beat Smith 7-4 Tuesday at DeLutis Field.  Dan Smith and Adam Pexton each had a pair of hits to lead the winners.

Whitestown grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first, on an RBI single by Ryan Watson, scoring Pexton.  But Smith tied it on a wild pitch thrown by Matt Engler in the top of the second with the bases loaded, bringing Josh Mazzaferro home.

In the bottom of the second, Whitestown went back on top thanks to an errant throw on an attempted double play ball hit by Dylan Gorski.  Connor Passalacqua scored to make it 2-1.  Two batters later, Matt Cornmire drove in Gorski and Devin LeBuis to extend the lead to 4-1.  Brendan Heitz capped off the inning with an RBI single scoring Cornmire.

With the win, Whitestown improves to 4-1, while dropping Smith out of second place in the Oneida County standings, at 4-2.
