New York Mills advances to State Championship game

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - It wasn't the prettiest win, but the New York Mills Marauders still beat Chateaugay 59-55 in the Class D State Final Four and will play in the title game Saturday.  It's the first time Mills has made it to the title game since they won it all in 1982.

With Fred Russ in foul trouble and the Marauders struggling to get the ball into Matt Welch inside, Jake Kehrli came up huge in the fourth quarter, scoring nine of his game high 18 points and helping Mills stay in front.  Point guard J.T. Ross also hit some key free throws in the closing seconds to ice the victory.

Russ finished with 15 points while Welch added 14, but the emergence of Kehrli as a third scoring threat is a huge boost for Mills as they prepare to meet Coleman Catholic in the title game, Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Stay tuned to WKTV on Saturday, as Mike Levin will have highlights and reaction to the title game, and Andrew Donovan will be blogging live on
