CAMDEN, N.Y. (WKTV) - Avenging their only loss so far this season, the V-V-S field hockey team beat old rival Camden 3-2 Friday in the first game of any kind played on the new turf at Camden's Stadium. Both teams scored less than two minutes into the game, setting an early offensive pace that slowed afterward.
Ashley Palmer of the Lady Red Devils scored the first goal, just 1:09 into the game. 39 seconds later, Kianne Hinkle of Camden evened up the odds.
The scored stayed 1-1 until the closing moments of the first half, when Briana Rascoe redirected a shot by Alexis Kavanaugh.
Down 2-1 for most of the second half, the Lady Blue Devils finally got the equalizer with 11:13 remaining, when Hinkle picked up her second goal of the game.
But just over three minutes later, V-V-S did it again, taking the lead for good thanks to a poweful shot by Jenna Dunne that found its way through the defense and in for the goal.
V-V-S (11-1) lost its only game of the season to Camden (8-2-1), 3-2 at home.
