NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Arguably the biggest rivalry in the area lived up to the hype on Friday. New Hartford got a monster game from Joe Carcone in a 42-28 win over Whitesboro.

The Warriors got off to a fast start on touchdown runs by Kevin Flannigan and Matt Morosco to take a 14-0 lead. The Spartans then hit the air, moving the ball down the field and then handing it to Carcone for a one yard touchdown to cut the lead to 14-6. Carcone would then score on a 17 yard pass from Vinny Servadio to get within 14-12 in the second quarter.

Whitesboro then marched right down the field to take a 21-12 lead off a Sean Jones pass to Jake Manley. However, with 45 seconds left in the half, Carcone scored on a 17 yard rush to make it 21-18 at the half.

Third quarter, the Spartans went right to work on the ground. Carcone had a big 70 hard run right off the bat which he followed up a few plays later by scoring on a direct snap to give New Hartford their first lead of the game. The two point conversion was good giving the Spartins a 26-21 lead. Later in the quarter, Anthony Acevedo, who had 91 yards rushing, ran for his only score of the game. The two point conversion put them up 34-21.

In the fourth, Carcone scored his fifth and final touchdown of the night. He rushed for 204 yards putting him over the 1000 yard mark for the season. New Hartford is now 7-0 and will likely face Nottingham in the playoffs next week. Whitesboro is 6-1. Both teams will host playoff games in Week 8.
