Area teams changing classes in 2010 high school football alignment

By By JASON POWLES

(WKTV) -  They say change is good. For some area schools, the jury is still out on that. Several football programs will again find themselves playing in a different class in 2010.

The biggest movers are Cooperstown, Holland Patent, Little Falls, Mohawk and Westmoreland. Richfield Springs will not field a team in 2010 and Rome Catholic will combine with Notre Dame resulting in a move up to Class C. Section 3 has yet to receive the paperwork to approve that merger.

Westmoreland, who won the Class D Section II title last season, will move to the Class C South. Mohawk, who was in the Class C East last season will drop down to the Class D East.  Cooperstown goes from Class C East to Class D Central. Little Falls moves to the Class C East from D East and Holland Patent is back in Class B East.
