ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Herkimer football team is heading back to the Carrier Dome for the Section III Class C championship after a 41-7 win over Lowville Saturday night at RFA Stadium. Austin Mills rushed for 126 yards and 130 yards through the air, scoring three times for the Magicians, who hope to win their second straight section title next Saturday against Skaneateles.
Both Mills and Matt Borek went down with injuries in the game with Lowville, but it didn't ultimately affect the outcome.
Herkimer got on the board in the first quarter on a 26 yard touchdown run by Borek, but the Red Raiders evened up the odds on an option pass from Cameron Malik to Kyle Malik. The Magicians went back in front when Mills threw a 58 yard TD pass to Zach Steele.
Leading 14-7 after one quarter, Herkimer scored two more times, the first on a 20 yard strike from Mills to Steele, then again on a shovel pass from Mike Dobek to Ryan Fahy.
